This is a tense and well made hijack drama where flight attendant Neerja (Sonam) is on duty on a Mumbai New York flight which gets hijacked during the stopover at Karachi. To call it a tearjerker may not be appropriate since there is no laboured attempt by the director to make you cry,and some of the situations themselves move you to tears. This is surely one of the better films in recent times. Go ahead and see this film if you have not already seen it. The composers have done exceedingly well to accentuate the spirit on which the premise of this film is set.The film is a must- watch to not only being made aware of a life of a hero who is not often talked about but also for the deft storytelling and applause- worthy performances of the cast. Shabana Azmi as NeerjaвЂ™s mother was spot on with her performance.The film, just like its story has some powerful and moving songs. Supporting cast too added to make this film a masterpiece in itself. She brought out the emotions and valor with utmost sincerity and honesty. The relationship between Neerja and her mother who lovingly calls her вЂњLaadoвЂќ is heart wrenching.This is undoubtedly SonamвЂ™s best performance so far in her career. ThereвЂ™s also a sharp focus on the mundane. The powerful depiction of the courage is bound to move the audience to tears. All this help build an impressive character of Neerja in the minds of viewers.The film does a masterful job in evoking emotions. It is in the small rebellions of everyday life such as escaping from an abusive marriage or leaving her stable modeling career to become a flight attendant. Her courage doesnвЂ™t wait to be depicted when she sacrifices her life. It revolves around the life of an everyday woman who isnвЂ™t ordinary in her thoughts and actions. Backed by wonderful storytelling and powerful performances from the cast, Neerja hits all the right chords.This isnвЂ™t a typical biopic with the lead character pedestalized and exaggeratedly eulogized. Little did she knew, that he life would echo the very thought.
